Planning a 2010 trip to Stuttgart? This will most likely be the taxi that’ll pick you up. Without a doubt, it’ll be a nicer taxi than you’ve ridden in before.
From the looks of all the pics we’ve seen so far, Gone are any signs of the early 2000s, channeling the rolling granite-like Mercedes of the 1980’s, from a quality so peerless that it felt like they would last a lifetime.

As you may know, to meet the stringent diesel emission criteria here in the United States, all the new Mercedes Benz BlueTec diesels use urea. It’s carried in a separate tan and injected into the catalyst. As you’d expect, the urea must be replenished from time to time, generally at the 10,000 mile service intervals, and now Mercedes informs us that their vehicles won’t start if the urea is allowed to run out.
BlueTec cars and SUVs will notify the driver when the 7 gallon urea tank reaches 1 gallon, and again when it runs completely out, allowing 20 additional starts before disabling the vehicle. At least 2 gallons of fluid must be added for the system to reset and permit the car to be started. Now, where might someone find two gallons of urea on the open road? Read the rest of this entry »

After igniting the war with the first iteration of the 350hp naturally aspirated E55 AMG, upping the game from the first BMW M5s, Mercedes-Benz’s in-house tuning arm, AMG, has decided to turn with the tide and call an end to the horsepower wars, with the division boss Volker Mornhinweg saying, “We are going to use other ways to extract better performance, including weight saving, engine optimization and alternative technologies.”
So how are they going to keep from sullying the good name of AMG? Getting the most out of the least. AMG is going to do that by losing weight, installing tech like the SL63 AMG’s wet clutch gearbox on the coming E63 AMG, and possibly re-engineering Mercedes’ diesel, hybrid, and four-cylinder engines for AMG duty.

The 2009 Mercedes Benz McLaren SLR Stirling Moss has just been unveiled here at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show, and with only 75 copies of the $1.01 Million boutique supercar being produced, it’s a fitting start for the 2009 Detroit Auto Show.
The SLR Stirling Moss acts as the finale for the SLR supercar, and, of course, a tribute to one of histories greatest race car drivers. In the Stirling Moss variant, McLaren has boiled the driving experience down to its rawest form — a carbon fiber chassis, completely exposed to the elements, at one with the wind in your face, breathing in the smell of the side-exit exhaust pounding from the 650-hp supercharged 5.5-liter V8.

When you bash the Benz into some unyielding object and the entire front left is a mangled mess, what do you do? Well, this guy recognizes that the right side of the car is still fine, so he can still keep going, of course!
What’s really impressive is the high speed this French hooligan manages to sustain here, but it appears that long-term road-worthiness may be compromised.
