Inside the McLaren HeadQuarters Workshop – Creating the F1, MP4-23, SLR 722 GT

McLaren. The company has a racing history rivaled only by Ferrari. Creators of not just winning Formula 1 cars, but, the Legendary F1 Supercar and The also impressive SLR. With their corporate’s world headquarters and production headquarters a couple kilometers outside of Surry in the United Kingdom. Their 613,500 square foot facility was designed by the architects from Foster and Partners to reflect the high technology present at McLaren.

Not only does it play host and creator to some serious hardware like the Mercedes McLaren SLR 722 GT, but they’ve got its own series of lakes!

But managing a place where the slowest car still gives Ferrari a run for their money means organization. You can’t have your mechanics wasting their time looking for that 10MM socket set Johnny used a few hours ago. So as one might expect, the place is clean enough to eat off the floor of their McLaren Technology Centre.

Aside from their own chain of lakes to provide a serene backdrop, it has a wind tunnel, development garages, floating, evil-lair style walkways, and meeting rooms and office space for all of the bean counters and engineers. And the price to work in such a dungeon? Slaving away at 600+ HP supercars like the SLR…
