Shelby GT500 Super Snake Prudhomme Edition

Carol Shelby personally took the wraps off one of the most bad-ass street legal Mustangs ever built: the Shelby GT500 Super Snake Prudhomme Edition. This boss Mustang proves 750 HP is always a fitting tribute to end a current model.

Named for the Top Fuel drag racer, Don “The Snake” Prudhomme, who drove for Shelby in 1968, the Shelby GT500 Super Snake Prudhomme Edition features a lengthy listed of custom modifications. Aside from the 750 horsepower (800hp on race fuel) Kenne Bell-supercharged 5.4-liter V8, the car features a fiberglass full-tilt front end, Shelby rear drag wing, eight-point roll cage, six-piston front brakes, rear seat delete, coilover springs and Bogart wheels all in a street legal package you can purchase for $149,995. Now if $150K seems a bit high for you, Shelby will allow you to bring your own, previously purchased, GT500 in and they’ll do the retrofit for the low low price of $99,995. Production will be set at a very limited 100 examples…oh and if you didn’t catch it before, it’s STREET LEGAL.

Shelby Automobiles, a wholly owned subsidiary of Carroll Shelby International Inc. (CSBI.PK) has returned to drag racing with a limited edition Prudhomme Edition Super Snake package for the Shelby GT500 Mustang. Carroll Shelby and Don “The Snake” Prudhomme unveiled the program during a private reception at the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum in Pomona, Calif. The drag racing inspired 800 horsepower post title package was a collaboration between Shelby Autos and Don Prudhomme, who successfully drove a top fuel car for Carroll Shelby in the 1968 NHRA season.

Each year, the Automobile Club of Southern California holds a dinner to support the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum on the first night of the Kragen O’Reilly NHRA Winternationals. In honor of the fortieth anniversary of the first race that Mr. Prudhomme drove for Carroll Shelby, the Shelby Autos team unveiled the new drag racing package that they developed together over the past year.

“Don is an exceptional drag racer and I’m proud that he drove my first Top Fuel car in 1968,” noted Carroll Shelby. “By leveraging Don’s experience, we turned a really good car into a great drag racer that will beat up on the MOPAR and bow tie brigade right out of the box.”

The program is a post-title package for 2007-2010 Ford Shelby GT500 cars already in the hands of owners. To create the Prudhomme Edition Super Snake, Shelby Autos pumps up the 5.4L supercharged engine to produce 800 hp on race fuel or 750 hp on 93 octane pump gas. The Shelby includes a Kenne Belle modified air intake sticking out of the hood in the tilt front end, a five-point Impact safety harness and a Borla side exhaust system. A front and rear adjustable BMR racing suspension and drag tires are included to improve traction during launches; optional street tires are available. For a more aggressive stance and improved aerodynamics, side lower rockers are incorporated. Only 100 total packages at $100,000 (not including car) will be offered.

“Working with Don on this project was a great experience for our design team,” noted Amy Boylan, president of Shelby Automobiles. “Carroll and Don earned their stripes in competition over the years, so we had to build a car that would continue their racing domination. Our Prudhomme Edition GT500 Super Snake builds on that legacy and gives Shelby enthusiasts today a way to rule the quarter mile in their town.”

By the mid-1960s, Carroll Shelby and Don Prudhomme were both at the top of their respective games. Prudhomme was one of the winningest Top Fuel drag racers in the country. Shelby was a racer-turned-builder of Cobras, GT40s and Mustangs who won endurance and road racing championships worldwide. His company even offered drag racing packages for privateers to compete in their Cobra or Shelby Mustang on the strip.

“The Snake” and the Cobra’s creator teamed in 1968 for an NHRA ride. Prudhomme’s Ford Cammer-powered rail made its debut as “Shelby’s Super Snake at the 1968 Winternationals. He won the race and drove the rest of the season under the Shelby banner.

Don “The Snake” Prudhomme’s successful racing career included winning the NHRA funny car championship four times. He was the first funny car driver to exceed 250 mph. In 1994, he began managing his own racing team, which won the Top Fuel championship in 2002 and 2003. Prudhomme was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 1991 and the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2000.

“It’s been a great opportunity to work with Carroll and the Shelby Autos team on this amazing program,” added Prudhomme. “I’m honored that Carroll gave me this honor to build a car that’s true to his legacy and my efforts to move them across the finish line first. The car can be tuned to deliver over 800 horsepower on race gas, which should pretty fast. It’s a well sorted out package that is capable of dusting the competition in the Shelby way.”

The Prudhomme Edition Shelby GT500 Super Snake is intended to be truly a road and track car.

“The thing I really think is cool about this car is that you can drive it both on the track and on the street,” added Prudhomme. “It reminds me of how drag racing used to be back in the day when we would drive our cars to the drag strip, race them, and drive them home at the end of the day. That’s maybe the neatest thing about this car.”

Hot on the heels of RENNTech’s announcment, Brabus has given us their Brabus B63 S tuning package to compete with the RENNtech version. So what have the Brabus folks bestowed upon us? It’s not quite RENNtech output, but by adding free-flow catalytic converters, high-flow air filters and tweaking the ECU with their new ignition and injection maps, Brabus bumps the 6.2-liter V8 from 457 HP to 530 HP, and sends the torque from 442 to 479 lb-ft and gives you enough to propel the newly tuned beast to a top speed of 197 MPH.

The horsepower wizards over at RENNtech have focused their wrenches on the already potent Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG to create what they consider to be a fitting heir to the Mercedes 6.3, appropriate given the name and the fact that latest C-Class has grown nearly to the size of that legendary sedan. To achieve this proper Überness, they’ve released the 6.2 AMG V8 from the grips of unnecessary restriction and managed to squeeze out nearly 100 additional horsepower. The sleek sedan achieves up to 548 HP and 510 lb-ft of torque thanks to new engine management, long-tube headers and new pipes. To handle all of that extra power you might want to opt for the new RENNtech brake kit and, just to be safe, throw in the height control suspension system for some up and down goodness and you have yourself one mean machine. RennTECH Tuned Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG

40 years ago, the hottest, fastest sedan you could buy was Mercedes-Benz’ 300SEL 6.3. By placing its largest engine in a mid-sized car, Mercedes’ engineers created a luxurious sedan capable of out-performing some of the quickest sportscars of its day. The 6.3 remains a landmark sports sedan that continues to influence Mercedes’ design direction. Nowhere is the influence of the 6.3 more evident than in AMG’s current line of sports sedans. AMG’s newest cars carry the first purpose-built, “all-AMG” engine design in the company’s history, and the “63″ designation they wear (S63, E63, etc.) is a direct reference to the 6.3.

Last year, Mercedes revisited the “bigger engine, smaller car” formula and introduced the C63 AMG. Powered by the same 6.2 liter V8 as its bigger, more expensive S and E class siblings, the C63 promised heart-stopping performance at a bargain price … but, somewhere between concept and production, something happened: the C63 put out a “mere” 451 hp.

While the C63 is certainly no slouch, it didn’t make the same 507 or 518 horsepower that its E and S class siblings made. Some of the power difference can legitimately be blamed on more restrictive intake and exhaust paths – after all, the big V8 is a tight fit in the smaller C class, but this fails to explain how the same engine, when found under the hood of a CLK63 AMG Cabrio, makes 475 hp.

Where did that 24 hp go?

“Mercedes restricted the car,” explains Hartmut Feyhl. “So, our first step in extracting more power from the C63 is to de-restrict the car.” Of course, in this modern age of software encryption and electronic obstacles, that kind of “de-restricting” is easier said than done – which is why Feyhl is exactly the man you want to talk to when it’s time to take your C63 to the next level.

Hartmut Feyhl was technical director at AMG North America before forming his own company, RENNtech, in 1989. Since then, Feyhl built a reputation as one of the world’s premier tuners and America’s foremost authority on Mercedes-Benz high performance.

It should come as no surprise, then, that RENNtech’s first offering for the C63 was an effective ECU software upgrade (ECU1) to unleash the same “factory” 475 hp and 465 lb-ft (up from 451 and 443) as the CLK.

It should also come as no surprise, then, that RENNtech didn’t leave it at that! “In a sense, the C63 is a return to the roots for Mercedes, and for AMG, and also for RENNtech,” says Feyhl. “It is a very special car, as the C class has grown to about the same size as the 6.3 and the W124 Hammer, but with much more power. We want to see how far we can go with this car.”

With that in mind, RENNtech has introduced a comprehensive line of performance products to turn the AMG C63s of the world into more focused trackday performers, starting with the car you see here.

To get the most from the C63, RENNtech began with the ECU2 high-performance software. Much more than a (relatively) simple de-restriction, this flavor of RENNtech’s software optimizes every aspect of engine performance, building massive amounts of torque across the low-to-mid rpm range and boosting the C63’s top speed to 187 mph. When combined with RENNtech’s stainless-steel long-tube headers and new, track-oriented sound/performance pipes, the RENNtech software produces 548 peak horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque.

RENNtech sharpens the C63’s handling reflexes with a fully adjustable sport suspension and adjustable front and rear camber bushings that allow customers to “dial-in” ride height and shock damping while the camber bushings help maintain proper camber and alignment for maximum grip (RENNtech considers these camber bushings a must-have item for serious performance drivers).

To rein in the C63’s newfound horsepower, RENNtech offers maximum stopping power in the form 15.2″ 2 PC rotors clamped by RENNtech calipers. Along with stainless steel braided lines front and rear, these brakes improve overall feel and driver confidence at speed. Additional cooling from RENNtech’s carbon-fiber brake ducts further reduce fade – another must-have upgrade for competitive driving styles.

In the past, few would have considered a car like the C63 a truly capable trackday ride, but with the success of track events like the AMG Challenge and SLR.Club Trophy, it is clear that there are a growing AMG drivers who want to experience their car on the track. “We are all racers,” says Feyhl, “and when we find ourselves on a track, we want to be competitive.”

With nearly 100 hp over the stock C63 AMG, the RENNtech-tuned C63s will probably be powerful enough for most people – but remember that this is RENNtech! The birthplace of the “real” 722 SLR, where a 900 lb-ft twin-turbo V12 sedan is a daily occurrence. Plus, 2009 marks RENNtech’s 20th anniversary … does Herr Feyhl have some kind of “birthday party” in mind for RENNtech that involves the C63 and ties all this rich history and tradition together?

Brabus has announced a special variant of the already powerful Mercedes Benz C-Class Bullit, titled the Brabus Bullit Black Arrow at the Geneva Motor Show. Today, Brabus has given us a plethora of new photos showcasing the model along with a lengthy press release outlining what you can expect from the 730-horsepower C Class.

How can you describe Mercedes’s smallest sedan given an incredibly large (6.3L) v12? How about an absurd amount of power wrapped in a surreptitious shell would define the Brabus Bullit Black Arrow well. Some would consider this 730 hp/537 kW V12, capable of producing a peak torque of 1,320 Nm, is already somewhat impractical in a C-Class, and then taking into account, piloting a vehicle capable of accelerating from 0-62mph in 3.9 seconds, 0-186mph in 24.5 seconds and achieving a top speed of more than 225 mph is even a bit…gratuitous. We think its exactly what the doctor ordered.

This is Brabus ladies and gentlemen, and Brabus doesn’t really care what the general population thinks. Tuning, especially when attempting to improve on a brand that already sets the bar for the automotive world, is about taking an already spectacular model, and making it even better. And make no mistake, that’s exactly what Brabus has accomplished with the Brabus Bullit Black Arrow.

In order to improve on the Mercedes C-Class, and their own Brabus Bullit, Brabus had to incorporate a wealth of upgrades that are second to none. Starting with the 730HP 6.3L V12, they then added a reinforced 5-speed transmission, height-adjustable coil-over suspension and a high-performance brake system all aimed at making the Bullit the most omnipotent C-Class ever produced.

Once these performance enhancements were out of the way, the next step was to improve the Bullit’s aerodynamic and cooling properties, courtesy of carbon-fiber front and rear aprons, a new vented hood, a wider track courtesy of flared aluminum wheel arches and 19-inch Brabus Monoblock S light alloy wheels.

But that’s not all,! To complete the package, Brabus engineers also touched the inside of the Bullit Black Arrow. Features here include a hand-crafted Mastik and Nubuk leather interior; custom seats with carbon-fiber rear cover; and carbon-fiber components on the dashboard, center console and door panels, just for starters.

So what does the price of perfection cost nowadays? The Brabus Bullit Black Arrow starts at its base price of EUR 348,000 ($542,549.60 USD approximately), which only reinforces its supercar status in our minds. For this price, however, you’ll get a car that despite its unassuming nature, is one of the fastest sedans (if not the fastest) in the world.

Numerous modifications to the reinforced body were necessary to install the turbocharged V12 engine in the C-Class engine bay. The BRABUS SV12 S Biturbo engine is derived directly from the BRABUS ROCKET and uses the latest Mercedes S 600 engine that has been completely reworked in the company-own engine building shop.

Nothing beats displacement except even more displacement: A crankshaft with longer stroke, larger cylinder bore, and special pistons and piston rods increase displacement of the twelve-cylinder three-valve engine from 5.5 to 6.3 liters (336 to 385 cu. in.).

Cylinder heads optimized for faster gas exchange and high-performance camshafts also contribute to the increase in power output. They are assisted by a more efficient dual turbocharging system, special manifolds, larger turbochargers and larger intercoolers. Because of space constraints in the C-Class body an entirely new stainless-steel high-performance exhaust system with low back-pressure metal catalysts had to be developed.

The BRABUS motor engineers used state-of-the-art engine test benches to program new mapping for engine electronics and on-board diagnostics. The new mapping ensures optimal power yield while meeting strict EURO IV emission limits.

The BRABUS SV12 S Biturbo displacement engine, lubricated like all BRABUS high-performance engines with ARAL Synthetic motor oil, produces 730 hp (720 hp SAE net) / 537 kW at just 5,100 rpm. The peak torque of 1,320 Nm (974 lb-ft) is limited in-car electronically to 1,100 Nm (811 lb-ft).

Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a reinforced five-speed automatic transmission and a BRABUS limited-slip differential with a locking rate of 40 percent. Customers can choose from two final drive ratios. The BRABUS BULLIT BLACK ARROW features all modern driving dynamics systems such as ABS, ASR and ESP.

The matte-black stealth street rocket delivers unique performance: Just 3.9 seconds pass for the sprint from 0 – 100 km/h (62 mph), 200 km/h (124 mph) is reached after just 10.49 seconds. And after just 24.5 seconds the car shatters the 300-km/h barrier (186 mph). Top speed is more than 360 km/h (225 mph).

At these speeds favorable aerodynamic properties are absolutely essential. The BRABUS BULLIT BLACK ARROW was honed to perfection in the wind tunnel. The BULLIT front apron features large air ducts to supply cooling air for radiators and front brakes. Its sophisticated design further reduces lift on the front axle. Its aerodynamic counterparts in the rear are a three-piece rear spoiler and a rear apron with integrated diffuser. Both front and rear aprons are made from especially light yet highly robust autoclave-baked carbon fiber.

A wider track optimizes directional stability so elementary at speeds beyond 300 km/h. The BRABUS designers have styled aluminum wheel arch flares for front and rear axle. They are seamlessly melded to the production body and add six centimeters (2.4 inches) to the C-Class width. BRABUS rocker panels optimize the airstream along the sides. They also feature integrated entry lights that make entering and exiting the vehicle safer in the dark.

The visual appearance of the BRABUS BULLIT BLACK ARROW is further characterized by the new hood. Its integrated ‘gills’ are not just distinctive features, they also ensure the engine’s thermal health.

The wheel arch flares provide space for especially wide matte-black BRABUS Monoblock S light-alloy wheels with high-performance tires from technology partners YOKOHAMA or Pirelli. The 9.5Jx19 wheels on the front axle are shod with size 265/30 ZR 19 tires. The rear axle is fitted with size 10Jx19 wheels and size 285/30 ZR 19 tires.

The height-adjustable coil-over suspension was developed specifically for the BRABUS BULLIT BLACK ARROW. The gas-pressure shocks feature ten selectable settings each for bound and rebound. They provide a sporty yet comfortable ride and safe handling in any situation. Sport stabilizers reduces body roll to a minimum during fast cornering.

The BRABUS high-performance brake system can handle even the most extreme stress. It features 12-piston aluminum fixed calipers on the front axle that grip vented and grooved 380 x 37 millimeter (15 x 1.46 inches) brake discs. The rear axle stops with 360 x 28 millimeter (14.2 x 1.1 inches) discs and six-piston aluminum fixed calipers.

Exclusive individuality also abounds in the interior of the BRABUS automobile: The standard equipment package includes a fully leather interior hand-crafted in the company-own upholstery shop from the finest Mastik and Nubuk leathers.

The custom BULLIT seats offer a perfect combination of comfort and lateral support. Their carbon-fiber rear covers lend the interior an especially sporty feel. This look is complemented by carbon-fiber components on dashboard, center console and door panels as well as by the ergonomically shaped sport steering wheel and aluminum pedals and shifter.

For most people, the abundant power and superb handling of the amazing Mercedes-Benz CLK63 AMG Black Series is more than sufficient. Straight from the factory, the CLK 63 Black boasts an output of 373 kW/507 hp and 630 Newton meters of torque – enough to propel the CLK from 0-62mph in just 4.3 seconds and reach its electronically-limited top speed of 186 mph easily. But there’s more than that! There’s the high-performance brake system, the track-optimized adjustable threaded suspension, the specially-developed cooling systems… the list goes on… But, for those of you whose always looking for more, the nice boys at Renntech have introduced a tuning package for the CLK 63 Black Series – one that extract a bit more power and drivability from an already supremely capable vehicle.

The magicians at Renntech have managed to increase power output of the CLK63 AMG Black Series to 550 horsepower, and even more impressive, they’ve also managed to deliver an additional 45-60 lb-ft of torque between 2400 and 5000 rpm. According to the founder of Renntech, Hartmut Feyhl: “Real-world performance is all about torque, not so much about a peak horsepower number at very high rpm. It can be very easy to build high rpm horsepower, but to get instant throttle response and mid-
range acceleration it is more difficult, and this is where customers really want to feel that improvement.”

But again, there’s more than just engine power to look at. Next, the CLK63 Black Series’ handling was tweaked. Renntech has somehow lowered the car an extra 3/4″ and added carbon-fiber strut braces and fully-adjustable camber bushings at all 4 corners. But wait, there’s more! To improve aerodynamic efficiency, an adjustable carbon fiber rear wing and a front splitter/rear diffuser combination were added, and completing the package are some high performance brake pads and stainless-steel braided lines (ensuring an ample amount of stopping power, should the need arise).

While Renntech’s tuning package isn’t necessary to experience the thrill and exhilaration in your CLK63 AMG Black Series, it is a nice and simple way to experience more of what your dominating Mercedes already provides.

RENNTECH for the Mercedes-Benz CLK63 AMG Black Series

Mercedes-Benz made a big splash with the introduction of its CLK63 AMG Black Series coupe last year. The aggressive “F1 safety-car” look gave the 500 hp CLK
Black a visual edge that the CLK55 AMG lacked, and the Black Series’ suspension and brakes were in a decidedly different league compared to other Mercedes.

Impressive spec sheet notwithstanding, some customers will still believe that 500 hp is not enough, and for those select few who find the CLK a bit tame, there is always
RENNTECH.

Established in 1989 by Hartmut Feyhl (ex technical director: AMG North America), RENNTECH quickly made a name for itself with high-powered magazine tuner-
shootout cars that were reliable enough to actually be driven from RENNTECH’s home in South Florida thousands of miles to events in Texas and Michigan. For
the CLK Black, Feyhl told his crew to develop the same kind of “real-world” performance upgrades that made his cars so famous to begin with.

“Real-world performance is all about torque, not so much about a peak horsepower number at very high rpm,” explains Feyhl. “It can be very easy to build high rpm
horsepower, but to get instant throttle response and mid-range acceleration it is more difficult, and this is where customers really want to feel that improvement.” To build
that improvement, RENNTECH adds long-tube headers and a motorsports style exhaust to the already-potent 6.2 liter engine, tying it all together with RENNTECH’s own
ECU software, sharpening throttle response and boosting 550 peak hp. The real story, however, is drivability – and this is where the RENNTECH tuning package shines,
delivering an additional 45-60 lb-ft of torque between 2400 and 5000 rpm.

To “sharpen” the car even further, RENNTECH fine-tuned the CLK63 Black Series’ suspension, lowering the car 3/4″ and adding carbon-fiber strut braces front and rear. To
enhance mechanical grip in fast corners, RENNTECH also added fully-adjustable camber bushings at all four corners. Aerodynamic stability is also greatly enhanced with an adjustable carbon-fiber rear wing element and a front splitter/rear diffuser combination to manage underbody airflow, building usable downforce and (adjustable) aerodynamic balance at speed, while directing cooling air to the Black Series’ huge AMG brake rotors – themselves enhanced with high-performance pads and stainless-steel braided lines. The result is a hard-core CLK63 from RENNTECH that does the unthinkable: it makes the standard CLK63 seem a bit soft.

This is one of those head-to-head battles everyone wants to see: Manufacturer BMW’s brand new V8 Powered M3 versus the aftermarket Dinan tuned 335i coupe. So here’s the facts, we’ll let the video do the talking.

As far as cars with potential, the BMW 335i has proven itself as a car with lots of tuner potential, especially with a tweaked ECU to extract maximum output from its twin-turboed 3.0-liter inline-six. Dinan agrees, with its Dinan Stage 3 package they released a few months back. Included is a fully-adjustable suspension and a handful of engine mods that bring engine output up to 406 hp and a whopping 460 lb.-ft. of torque.
Of course, the extra 100HP doesn’t come cheap. To get the “base” BMW 335i up to the Dinan Stage 3 spec (and get that nifty badge on the trunk) will set you back around $14,000. But compared to the $71,000 $56,500 (no mark-up, no oxygen) base price of the new M3, it’s still a bargain. The BMW M3 still has the peak horsepower advantage, of 420HP, but don’t ignore the perks of the Dinan 335i’s torque advantage and lower curb weight.

Tuner company G-Power is no stranger to BMW’s. Having success with tuning the BMW M5’s, by twin-supercharging the V10, G-Power was able to produce nearly 50% more power than the stock M5, and giving it a top speed of 211 mph. Stats which G-Power claims to be faster than any other street legal Bimmer.

Since the BMW M6 packs the same 5.0-liter V10, it was only a matter of time before BMW buyers could look forward to receiving the same treatment… Well wait no more! Introducing the G-Power M6 Hurricane! While the twin blowers are set for lower boost, only 6 psi compared to the M5’s 10 psi, the M6 still produces an impressive 635 bhp @ 7300 rpm and 469 lb-ft torque @ 6300 rpm. Making the G-Power Hurricane good for a 4.5 second sprint to 60 mph and a top speed of nearly 200 mph.

Of course, with those figures, one can’t forget appearance matter. G-Power also provides a new front and rear fascia, rocker panels, and carbon fiber rear diffuser along with 21-inch wheels that make room for a 15-inch brake system up front. Since the BMW M6 has been out for a while already, current M6 owners can drop off their car at G-Power’s German headquarters besides just ordering a fully assembled car starting for a mere 183,000 Euros.

One of the world’s fastest and most powerful convertibles is made by G-POWER. The 335-km/h G-POWER M6 HURRICANE is based on the latest BMW M6. At the heart of the high-performance convertible is a five-liter V10 engine with G-POWER BI-Kompressor system that delivers 635 hp / 467 kW.

To achieve the desired increase in power output of 128 hp / 94 kW for the fast-revving engine that normally produces 507 hp / 373 kW, G-POWER has developed a high-tech supercharging system. The system uses one belt-driven ASA T1-12 compressor for each cylinder bank. Contrary to conventional mechanical chargers that waste a large portion of the additional power on being driven themselves, the ASA compressor has an efficiency rate of up to 80 percent. The ASA charger is also small, which allows G-POWER to install two of them in the tight confines of the M6 engine bay. With a maximum airstream volume of up to 1,200 kg per hour per cylinder bank the compressors are designed for an even higher power output than the limited boost pressure of 0.4 bars featured at the M6 HURRICANE convertible. In comparison: The G-POWER M5 V10 HURRICANE based on the BMW M5 with a boost pressure of 0.7 bars is producing 730 hp and holds the record for the fastest street legal BMW with a top speed of 360 km/h.

The pre-compressed charge air is cooled down in a highly efficient dual-flow water-to-air intercooler system that is mounted above the engine. This measure optimizes power yield, throttle response and also ensures the engine’s thermal health. Specially developed mapping for engine electronics and SMG gearbox controls coordinate the perfect interaction of all new components.

The supercharged M6 V10 engine produces its maximum power output of 635 hp / 467 kW at 7,300. The high efficiency rate of the two ASA superchargers, each spinning at up to 100,000 rpm and more, results in a torque diagram that rises early and at 3,600 rpm already surpasses the production engine’s peak torque of 520 Nm, delivered at 6,100 rpm. The new peak of 635 Nm is reached at 6,300 rpm. This special characteristic is, apart from the outstanding reliability and long life qualities, the reason why ALPINA features the ASA superchargers in their models B5, B6 and B7, as well.

Acceleration performance benefits from the perfect performance characteristic accordingly. With a sprint time from rest to 100 km/h of 4.6 seconds and to 200 km/h in 11,9 seconds the 2-ton convertible accelerates like a true sports car. The 300-km/h barrier is shattered after 34,5 seconds from standstill. Contrary to the production car the G-POWER HURRICANE is not limited electronically to a top speed of 250 km/h but to 320 km/h. The determining factors therefore are weight, tyres and most important the soft top of the M6 convertible.

The enormous performance places extreme demands on aerodynamics, tires, suspension and brakes.

The G-POWER front apron, upon request also available made from especially light carbon fiber, replaces the production part in its entirety. Its large air inlets provide optimal supply of cooling air for all radiators and front brakes. At the same time the spoiler minimizes lift on the front axle at high speeds. The G-POWER rocker panels smooth the airflow between the wheel houses and give the M6 a longer, lower and sleeker appearance. Lift on the rear axle is reduced by the carbon-fiber rear diffuser for the G-POWER rear apron.

Even better driving dynamics and more exclusive looks are the hallmark of the G-POWER Silverstone 21-inch light-alloy wheels that fill out the space beneath the wheel arches perfectly. The drop-center rims have brilliant-graphite coated centers while the outer rim wells and spokes are polished. They are mounted in sizes 9.5 J x 21 with size 255/30 ZR 21 tires in front and size 10.5 J x 21 wheels with size 295/25 ZR 21 tires on the rear axle. Technology partner Dunlop provides the perfect high-speed tires.

The large wheels make room for the G-POWER high-performance brake system with eight-piston fixed calipers and 380 x 34 millimeter brake discs on the front axle. The M6 handling can be made even sportier by installing the height-adjustable G-POWER coil-over suspension RS with nine selectable settings each for bound and rebound.

The G-POWER M6 HURRICANE convertible is available as a fully converted car starting at 183,000 Euros. Any existing M6 – sedan and wagon – can also be upgraded with the G-POWER twin-compressor system along with numerous items from the extensive G-POWER tuning accessories lineup. For M6 coupé drivers only is the 730 hp version of the G-POWER BI-Kompressor system available, as well.

“BRABUS” might as well be German for, “Insane Amounts of Power.” This would explain why Brabus engineers take the already potent engines from both Mercedes-Benz, and their performance arm AMG, and boost them to even higher levels. This behavior is, of course, well-documented, and it continues unabated with the arrival of Mercedes’ newly updated SL.

Brabus has given the SL the full wheel/tire, interior, and styling packages. Along with backing up those aggressively enhanced looks with an assortment of tuning packages capable of providing more power than even Captain Kirk could ever ask for.

The Brabus Flagship is their SV12 S Biturbo engine, developed originally for the BRABUS ROCKET, the world’s fastest sedan, appears to have been created by someone with a severe hatred for tires. It serves up a ridiculous 720 horsepower and 973 lb-ft of torque! In this case, the torque is reigned in electronically to a mere 811 lb-ft., but a top speed of over 200 mph comes with the Brabus badge.

Not quite ready to sink the +$140,000(USD) for a v12 variant of the SL600? No worries, BRABUS has you covered. SL 65 AMG drivers can go for the T 65 S package, which bumps the stock V12 Biturbo to 705 hp/811 lb-ft. Or, for the v8 variants, there’s a solution for the SL 63 AMG as well that packs on an additional 40 horses over stock. This pattern continues on down the line – even to the V6-powered SL cars can be tuned to deliver 327 hp/ 310 lb-ft. Insane…Er, BRABUS…

The Exclusive BRABUS Sport Program for the New SL-Class

Rejuvenated by a substantial model update the fifth generation of the Mercedes SL now starts yet another chapter in the unparalleled success story of the popular Mercedes roadster. The corresponding exclusive sport program comes from BRABUS. Powerful increased-displacement engines with up to 730 hp (720 hp SAE net) / 537 kW of power, a striking designer suit, high-quality light-alloy wheels with diameters of up to 20 inches, professional suspension tuning and custom interior design: The BRABUS program leaves nothing to be desired.

The top-of-the-heap BRABUS power source for the SL 600 is the BRABUS SV12 S Biturbo engine, developed originally for the BRABUS ROCKET, the world’s fastest sedan. 730 hp (720 hp SAE net) / 537 kW of power and a whopping peak torque of 1,320 Nm (973 lb-ft), electronically limited in the car to 1,100 Nm (811 lb-ft), are the result of numerous modifications. During the displacement increase from 5.5 to 6.3 liters the engine’s interior is completely reworked. In addition the engine is fitted with a more efficient turbocharging system and a stainless-steel high-performance exhaust system with metal catalysts. Power is transferred via a reinforced five-speed automatic transmission and a special BRABUS limited-slip differential that is available for all SL models.

A sprint time of 4.0 seconds from rest to 100 km/h (62 mph), 10.5 seconds to 200 km/h (124 mph) and – depending on final drive ratio and tire speed rating – an electronically limited top speed of 350 km/h (219 mph) make the BRABUS SV12 S Biturbo roadster one of the world’s fastest sports cars.

BRABUS tuning is also available for the SL 65: The BRABUS T 12 S performance kit increases power output by 40 hp (DIN and SAE net) / 29.4 kW. The BRABUS T 65 S power kit bumps power output to 715 hp (705 hp SAE net) / 526 kW and peak torque to 1,100 Nm (811 lb-ft).

The SL 63 AMG also receives some added power with BRABUS B63 S tuning. Sport air filter, high-performance metal catalysts and newly programmed engine electronics add 40 hp (DIN and SAE net) 29.5 kW to the power output of the fast-revving V8 engine, and increase top speed to 320 km/h (200 mph).
The four-valve-V8 engine of the SL 500 (US: SL550) with BRABUS 6.1 S displacement increase produces 462 hp (456 hp SAE net) / 340 kW of power at 6,200 rpm and a peak torque of 615 Nm (453 lb-ft) at 3,100 rpm. The BRABUS 4.0 displacement engine with 332 hp (327 hp SAE net) / 244 kW of power and 420 Nm (310 lb-ft) of torque is available for the V6 four-valve engines of the SL 280 and SL 350.

The stainless-steel BRABUS sport exhaust system with four chrome-plated tailpipes is a must for all BRABUS high-performance engines. But it is also the answer for all SL owners wishing for a sportier exhaust note and for a more striking rear appearance of their two-seater.

To add sporty emphasis to the elegant lines of the new Mercedes SL series, the BRABUS designers went into the wind tunnel to develop a strikingly styled aerodynamic-enhancement kit.

The front of the SL receives some added pizzazz with the BRABUS front apron that replaces the production bumper. It features LED daytime running lights as well as auxiliary high beams and fog lamps, and reduces lift on the front axle at high speeds.

The elegantly shaped BRABUS rocker panels each have three entrance lights integrated into their underside. The lights are activated with the keyless fob or by pulling on an inside door handle. The LED lights illuminate the ground on either side of the vehicle and help avoid unfortunate missteps into puddles or holes in the dark.

The BRABUS design package for the latest SL-class is rounded out by a rear component that integrates environmental lighting, a centrally mounted rear reflector and two cutouts for the sport exhaust system.

Just as important for a customized look are one-piece and multi-piece BRABUS Monoblock light-alloy wheels, which can be mounted on the new roadster in four different designs and with diameters of 17, 18, 19 and 20 inches. The largest possible tire/wheel combination on the new SL features BRABUS Monoblock VI, E or S wheels in size 9Jx20 in front with size 255/30 ZR 20 tires. The rear axle rolls on size 10.5Jx20 wheels with size 305/25 ZR 20 tires. BRABUS recommends high-performance tires from Pirelli and YOKOHAMA.

To further improve the already potent handling capabilities of the new Mercedes SL, BRABUS has developed special suspension solutions. For the SL 280 and 350 models with conventional suspension BRABUS offers its sport springs. For all SL models with ABC active suspension BRABUS has developed an electronic module that lowers the ride height by some 25 millimeters. Sport sway bars reduce body roll.

BRABUS high-performance brake systems for the SL-Class are available in four different versions. The largest one features vented and cross-drilled front discs measuring 375 x 36 mm (14.8 x 1.4 inches), and 12-piston fixed calipers. The rear discs measure 355 x 28 mm (14.0 x 1.1 inches) and come with six-piston fixed calipers.

BRABUS also customizes the interior of the two-seater by upping the level of luxury. The list of products includes scuff plates with illuminated BRABUS-logo, an ergonomically shaped sport steering wheel with shift paddles, and an exclusive BRABUS custom interior crafted from an exquisite combination of especially soft yet durable BRABUS Mastik leather and Alcantara.
