We’ve been seeing a lot of Wrecked Exotics recently, but here’s a Lamborghini Diablo crash actually caught on video.

The damage done to the truck looks to be light, but the damage to the front of the Diablo, and the driver’s ego, is gonna be a whole lot more expensive and time consuming to fix.

We can just tell that this will be one of those videos that will get a million hits on Youtube. During some kind of a racing event in Europe, an overly confident Lamborghini Diablo driver attempts to make a snazzy exit from the starting point and amuse the crowd by powersliding around a corner, only to lose control of the ‘raging bull’ smashing it on a parked truck….

Here’s something to get your blood flowing. A wealthy Arab, everyone’s guessing a Sheik, sent his black and gold Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 a whopping 6,500 miles from an airport in Qatar to Heathrow to have the car’s oil changed. The total cost of the shipment was around $40,000, which doesn’t even include the $7,000 for the oil change itself.

So what’s the problem you might ask? All cars need to get their oil changed. Exotic car owners everywhere are happy to see that a fellow gentleman of means is taking care of his Lamborghini. However, The average Brit, or at least the average Brit interviewed, is horrified by the carbon footprint created from shipping a car, especially a gas guzzler, that far for an oil change.

One of the airport workers is quoted as saying: ““This car doesn’t have a carbon footprint – more of a crater.” Sounds like jealousy to us. But this reaction of outrage mimics a similar outpouring of detest from earlier this year. Remember how upset Sir Paul McCartney was when his Lexus LS600h hybrid was flown in from Japan earlier in the year.

While we’re amazed by the guy’s commitment to proper care and maintenance, just because you can afford to do something like this doesn’t mean you should. Are there really no proper shops in the Middle East that can handle an oil change on the new Lamborghini? Seriously?

As you may know, British Automotive show TopGear is back and in full swing for their 11th season already. And to show that they are still “in touch with the needs of the people” they felt the need to give advice on fuel economy and saving money. (That and apparently the BBC is sending them letters and letters and letters). And in true Jeremy Clarkson style, he decided to gather 5 supercars and have a race. But it wouldn’t be an ordinary race, oh no. It had to have that Topgear / Jeremy Clarkson touch.

The 5 cars in the race, the Mercedes SLR Mclaren, the Lamborghini Murcielago, the Aston Martin DBS, the Ferrari 599GTB, and the Audi R8 would only have 1 gallon of gas each. They raced around their TopGear Test Track until the winner was decided.

While we couldn’t link straight to the video, as the BBC would eventually come knocking down our AutoAlerts tower for copyright infringement, I’m sure you can find the results rather easily by heading over to your favorite video site and searching for the appropriate terms. It might not be the man of steel himself, but its sure got the power of a locomotive! But actually, its the extremely rare and expensive supercar known as the Lamborghini Reventón being suspended hundreds of feet off the ground by an Italian military helicopter! That’s right, Lamborghini got the idea to bring its halo supercar, the Reventón, to a conference in Turin, Italy by way of military helicopter and placed atop the roof the Lingotto building.

The conference, which was coincidentally hosted by Lamborghini and all about the Italian automaker, was called “Lamborghini and speed – a project in record time”. It was apparently about how Lamborghini developed the majestic Reventón so quickly and attended by “local, international and academic VIPs” as part of a larger conference called “Turin 2008 – World Design Capital”. Now let’s just hope that this, and all 20 other Reventon will stay firmly placed on the ground from now on.

We’re of the opinion that a gorgeous, high-performance, supercar would practically sell itself. Now add the Lamborghini badge into that equation, and we’ve wondering what the the marketing department has left to do? Well, apparently, they go around making videos like this.

I guess the lesson we’re taking away from this is the people that actually buy six-figure exotic cars aren’t usually the hardcore driving enthusiasts. Instead, they’re just rich guys looking for something loud and flashy to show off to the ladies.

So once you buy one, models will throw themselves at you, nightclubs will beg you to enter, paparazzi will stalk you, and that deep void in your soul will be filled.

Like a family crest, most Automotive emblems actually represent something important to their maker. Whether it be something historically important for the founder, ideals the brand strives towards, or a testament to someone’s ego, the symbol of each company has a history.

We stumbled across this encyclopedia of sorts that has cataloged the origins and meanings for almost every one of the worlds major automakers, and we must say, it’s pretty darn interesting. For instance Chevy’s logo has come about from…

…Popular legend has it that the Chevrolet logo was inspired by wallpaper in a French hotel where William C. Durant was staying (the legend says he saw the pattern marching off into infinity as a design on the wallpaper and tore a piece of it off to keep to show to friends and later turn into the company logo). However, his wife says that the bowtie emblem was first seen by her husband in a Virginia newspaper on a vacation around 1912, upon which he told her that the thought it’d be a very good emblem for the Chevrolet (per Chevrolet Pro Management Magazine, October 1986).

Ever wonder what your car’s logo looked like when it was just a baby? Well thanks to Brazilian ad agency Dentsu working with Minichamps, a die-cast scale model company, we now know what the toddler versions of the logos from Lamborghini, Ferrari, Maserati and Jaguar all look like.
