Ok, so we admit, sometimes we’re a little slow. (And no, we’re definitely not talking about our driving speeds) At the beginning of last month, Honda sent out its official press release of what the 2009 Honda Civic and 2009 Honda Civic Hybrid have to offer the world. Well finally ours arrived and here they are. The 2009 Honda Civic and Civic Hybrid have indeed been updated, but don’t hold your breath too much, they’re less exciting than one might hope for. It took us a bit to figure out what changed between ‘08 and ‘09, but from the appearance side of things, the most dramatic difference is the lower bumper — it gets a set of side intakes which are probably just for visual interest. Most of the news comes from interior features, including the introduction of a stereo system equipped to play MP3s, some Bluetooth gadgetry and a new stability-control system. Check out the pics and read all about it in the lengthy official press release after the jump.

The month of May actually saw the Honda Civic overtake the Ford F-150 in sales putting the Ford down in 4thplace. Whaaa!?

Yup, you read what I wrote properly, 42,973 F-series trucks were sold in May, against 52,826 Corollas, 51,291 Camrys and 53,299 Honda Civics. For full disclosure sake, Toyota counts the Matrix towards Corolla sales, so we’ll discount that figure, but who cares?

Civic for the win! According to Jim Farley, Ford group vice president for marketing and communications, “That’s just a sign of the times. I think May has been a watershed month.” Do people care about gas prices? We think this means the answer is “yes.”

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has released their results from sending the all new 2008 Dodge Caravan into walls and other large obstacles a few times.

The good news for Dodge is that the minivan received top scores of Good in front and side crashes. The bad news is that the rear crash tests came back with a Marginal score, the second lowest possible.

The front and side crash test results are an improvement from the previous-generation Dodge Caravan’s Average scores. The front and side crash tests are the tests that depict the most serious types of accidents. IIHS describes rear crash tests as “an assessment of occupant protection against neck injury in rear impacts at low to moderate speeds. Although such injuries usually aren’t serious, they occur frequently.”

There are Minivans that have actually received IIHS’ Top Safety Pick designation — for Good scores in all 3 tests — include the 2008 Honda Odyssey, 2008 Hyundai Entourage and the 2008 Kia Sedona.

Come on Chrysler/Cerebrus. Let’s see that German aided American Engineering do better than this!

San Diego – Toyota and Ford tied for leading in the most segments on Strategic Vision’s Total Quality Index™ (TQI), leading with three vehicles each. Toyota lead with its Yaris, 4Runner and Sequoia while Ford lead with the Edge, Mustang Convertible and F-250/350. The San Diego based research firm today announced the 2008 results that are based on the ratings by new vehicle owners in 19 product segments.

Toyota Motor Sales had two additional leaders with the Scion xB and the Lexus RX 350 (which tied with Land Rover’s LR2); while Ford Motor Company added two additional wins with the Mercury Sable and Volvo C30. “Ford is back, establishing its vehicle quality in the hearts and minds of its customers,” says Alexander Edwards, president of Strategic Vision’s automotive division. “The Ford Edge is one of the vehicles Ford can be proud of. By careful attention to key areas such as exterior styling, workmanship and performance, (which are the cues that signal quality for crossover customers), Ford is building vehicles that also build brand equity and perceived customer quality.”

The Total Quality Index™ is the premier measure of new vehicle owner satisfaction. It asks buyers to rate all aspects of the ownership experience, from buying and owning to performance and driving. It is much more than simply counting problems. “Innovation and thoughtfulness in functionality and design, keeping in mind how the customer will interact and use the vehicle, is essential,” reports Dr. Darrel Edwards, Founder and CEO of Strategic Vision. “Vehicles like the Volvo C30 and Toyota Sequoia are both terrific examples of providing customers with this ‘functional luxury’ in a very stylish design suggesting quality both on the inside and out.”

Mercedes, Honda and Chevrolet brands each had two leaders: Mercedes leading with the S-Class and SL, Honda with the Odyssey and Ridgeline, and Chevrolet with the Corvette Convertible and a tie with itself in full size trucks between the Avalanche and Silverado. From three leads last year, Hyundai took the lead in only one segment this year with its Santa Fe in one of the most competitive automotive segments, the Smaller SUVs. The Volkswagen Jetta, Chrysler 300C and BMW X5 were each TQI leaders. Also worthy of mention is the redesigned Chevrolet Malibu, now second in the highly competitive Medium Car segment.

“Over the past quarter century in the US, customer perceptions of quality of domestic and Asian manufacturers underwent large swings. Today, it doesn’t matter if you are a Toyota or a Ford, BMW or Hyundai, each manufacturer has the opportunity and mandate to produce a product with the right Cues of Quality — those product attributes that signal quality and create customer Trust — and present vehicles that have a greater impact on the purchase decision,” says Alexander Edwards.

Buyers rated the following vehicles tops in their segments:

He was holding on the the gearshift, and I think he was still in shock and still wanting to shift gears.”Though the driver has only suffered from a fractured neck, we’re pretty sure he’s going to be hurting a lot more after paying the lawyer fees.

Honda has recently announced they will be recalling 353,000 Honda Accords. The recall affects the 2003 model year Accord, and invloves a possible corrosion threat in the vehicle’s windshield wiper system. The defect could allow water to enter in through the area around the windshield wiper motor, leading to possible corrosion and even failure of the motor.

And from what we all learned about water and electricity, if water does get in the motor, a circuit breaker inside the motor could trip, preventing the windshield wipers from operating.

So bring your 2003 Honda Accord into a Honda dealer, so they can inspect your vehicle for such corrosion. If no corrosion is found, dealers must simply add another protective cover to the potentially defective area, but if corrosion is found, the entire motor will have to be replaced.

No injuries or accidents have been linked to the defect, according to the car manufacturer.

Personally, i think a good selling point would be for all manufacturers to list “Free Lifetime Recalls” as a selling point.
